Long exposure
I do that not often enough. Today, I took my Fujifilm X-T50 with me - living near the river Rhine I thought it was a good idea to make a long exposure of the floating water. Just for the fun, because normally I do not like those dreams long exposures of waterfalls and the like.
I am really not used to shoot on a tripod and especially not doing long exposures. However, in my sling bag I always carry a super-mini tripod (it almost may not bear the name since it has legs shorter than 5 cm…) and a little magnetic filter set with me.
The set consists of three neutral density filters (ND 1000, 16 and 8) and a CPL (polarity).
We had no sun today, but I decided to use the CPL, ND 1000 and ND8 in conjunction and just tried fore some shots. I did not reallly have time, but managed to do exposures between 4 and 2 minutes - sometimes with noise reduction which doubles the time to take the picture.
Well, out of four photos, three still were much too dark, but a 2 minute photo then was OK.
I tried with native ISO of 125 and apertures between 16 and 10. Ok, I got no final beautiful shot and it turned out that 4 minutes are not enough wo smoothen the water to a mirror,, but am prepared for the next time.
The fun is the process. Next time will come soon with longer exposures and probably I will shoot RAW next time… I just did so with JPEG which I normally always do since having the Fuji.
